Archaeological Archive Project

An ambitious project is underway at Peterborough Museum to consolidate its archived materials. These include finds from many local archaeological excavations. Items are being digitally recorded and stored appropriately, making them available for academic research.

The Peterborough Archaeological Archive Enhancement Project (PAAEP) is being led by Jason Cumberworth of Peterborough Museum. He has recently agreed to join the NVAT Research Committee.

The project has enlisted a team of over 50 volunteers to help undertake the massive task of consolidating the archive and introducing new best practice standards.

The project parallels recent work of the NVAT aimed at achieving publication of missing reports on important local excavations undertaken from the 1960s to the 1990s. We have added a web page with more details of the Archive Enhancement Project.
