Fotheringhay 1970

Field-walking located this site along with an air photograph which showed a small ‘cottage house’ type villa along with ancillary outbuildings set in an open courtyard.

The excavation attempted to assess the amount of plough damage caused by deep ploughing at the site. The topsoil was lifted to reveal the tops of walls and the rubble makeup of either walls or tumble from walls.   The pottery and other finds suggested a date range from the second to the 4th century.
