Norman Cross Prison was constructed in early 1797 to house prisoners of the Napoleonic wars. It formed part of a network of military “depots” and with a capacity of nearly 7,000 it had a major impact on our sleepy, local towns and villages.
In June 2025 the site of the Norman Cross Prison was acquired by Nene Park Trust with the intention of making it accessible to the public. The purchase was facilitated by grants from Historic England and The National Lottery Heritage Fund. A further piece of land associated with the prison was acquired in 2026.
As part of the programme to explain the significance of the site a video has been produced by Nene Park Trust.
